Illinois Tollway Elgin-O’Hare Expressway
M Squared Engineering, LLC (M²) was a part of the construction management team overseeing the construction of the new tollway (IL-390), the IL-83 interchange, and frontage roads. Utility relocation work for the Elgin O’Hare Tollway, from Lively Blvd. to Thomas Dr., began in the Summer of 2015 and concluded in the Spring of 2016. This work was executed by multiple separate construction contracts, including the construction of the new Thorndale Ave., East and West frontage roads, which began in the Spring of 2016, along with water main and storm sewer work. The pavement construction was completed in early summer. In August 2016, traffic was shifted from old Thorndale Ave. to the new frontage roads. M² involvement in this construction project concluded in November 2017 as the project construction contract was wrapping up.
Primary project responsibilities included:
- Documentation management, including verification of conformance to IDOT and Tollway standards
- Preparation of change orders and extra work orders
- Construction inspection of traffic signals, lighting systems, ITS and toll plazas, railroad, HMA & PCC paving, traffic control, erosion control management, and utility relocation
- Documentation of all added work, including contract plan revisions and contractor invoice review
- Pay estimate preparation and working with contractors to resolve quantity disputes
