MWRD Prairie / Farmers Creek Flood Mitigation Project
Project 22-874- 5FD Task Order 3M Squared Engineering, LLC (M2) served as a sub-consultant to Gewalt Hamilton on this flood control project for Prairie Creek (a tributary to Farmer’s Creek) along the length of the channel reach for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD). The project included channel improvements in the downstream reach of Prairie Creek, enlarging two retention ponds at the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, and improving culvert and/or bridge sizes for Prairie Creek throughout the watershed. M2’s responsibilities included review, update and QC of the analysis and design of the complex Dempster Steet storm sewer system, which is utilized by split flows from Prairie Creek. The project utilized an unsteady HEC-RAS model for Prairie Creek and Civil3D Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA) to model the Dempster St. storm sewer. The study will be updated and finalized for FEMA Regulatory approvals.
