IDOT – I-55 Flood Relief Study at Burr Ridge
M Squared Engineering, LLC (M²) oversaw and reported on the cleaning and televising efforts of two storm sewer sections within the Interstate 55 (I-55) corridor in the Chicago metropolitan area for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The first storm sewer was 186 feet of 36” reinforced concrete pipe, conveying stormwater runoff underneath I-55 and various ramps in Burr Ridge, IL. The second section was about 120 feet of 15-inch and 18-inch piping that transported stormwater from the I-55 roadway to the storm sewer trunk line. IDOT sought to complete these efforts due to roadway flooding that was occurring at these locations, which hindered traffic on I-55 and nearby roadways. The drainage investigation report on these storm sewer locations, completed by M², will assist IDOT in finding a solution to these roadway drainage issues.
M² provided support for various aspects of the project including:
- Preparing, televising, and cleaning proposals for multiple contractors in the area to bid on.
- Observing televising and cleaning efforts at both locations, ensuring tasks were completed properly in the field.
- Reviewing the location to help come up with potential solutions.
- Preparing an investigation report to convey the televising and review findings.
- Compiling and presenting two reports to IDOT about observed conditions and potential solutions for the storm sewers.
